I’ve been playing for a year now and I have never worn a pair of golf shoes. I wear some nubby Nike walkers. But I’m thinking of some new golf shoes for Christmas.

Only if you wear them on your hands.

yes..they helped mine a lot. My feet felt more…”planted”, I guess. I felt much more stable. They were spikes, though..the nubbies don’t do much for me.

They will probably make the sporting goods owner a little happier then he’ll pray for your swing to get a little better so you’ll come back next time for a golfing–watch.
    Practice makes perfect.

It does help. For my part, I kind of feel the greatest help was off the tee.

The big they do is keep your feet from slipping. I know when I started to play and wore sneakers, my feet slipped all the time. And I don’t think that was helping my swing.

The greatest benefit I find is on the tee, but depending on where you’re standing in the fairway or the rough, having a firm grip of the ground can prove invaluable there as well. Particularly if you really have to swing hard to get out of trouble.

Of course, if the shoes you’re wearing now are providing the traction you need and they’re not damaging the golf course (the greens in particular), then save the money and get yourself something else for Christmas.

In the end, it’s all about getting solid footing. Other than that, there’s no real magic in the shoes…the rest of the shot is up to you.

    Good luck!!

the spikes keep them from turning so you don’t turn and your aim is more accurate.

Good shoes keep you attached to the ground whilst you try to swing effectively. Good shoes are also comfortable to wear whilst walking in excess of 6,000 yds. and during wet weather they are a godsend

They might help you hit the ball better, but surely won’t fix your swing. I’ve played barefoot, in sandals without spikes, dress loafers, and have worn most brands of golf shoes over the years. The only difference I believe, is psychological and for some people, that is very important. I am a bit particular about how I look on the course from head to toe…right down to the right hat in the right colors and shoes that look “professional” as opposed to “athletic”. In the end, its all about whats inside your head on this one, I’m afraid. Now, if you want better traction on your feet during the swing…work on the root cause: bad balance. Hit some balls at the practice tee with your feet together and see what happens. Good luck!

You can get into a comfortable pair of golf shoes for under $50 these days. On the backswing your feet need to be stable and as you transition to the downswing, you need to be able to brace hard against your right side and finally on contact and follow through you need to plant the left side firmly. The spikes on golf shoes help you to do all this without slipping and allowing you to swing freely. They are not magic, but on slippery grass, they definitely help.
    Good luck.

what golf shoes do is create consistincy because their job is to help you stay in place. See the spikes help with traction so during the swing your foot doesn’t slip up instead they keep you firm in the ground. What shoes I would suggest would be Foot Joys my favorite kind of Foot Joys
are Dry Joys they are VERY water resistant. Last season I had a cheap pair of golf shoes and my feet would always get wet and I’d get blisters, but this year with the Dry Joys my feet maybe got wet once and I didn’t get any blisters. So it is important to get a great quality pair of golf shoes.

The spikes on your golf shoes are designed to give you traction throughout the golf swing, as it is vital that your feet don’t slip during the swing. With the introduction of soft spikes, some people complain that they don’t always grip well, but most courses now don’t allow metal spikes as far as I know. To answer your question, yes spikes are very important and will make a difference in your swing.
