Do I need special clothes or shoes to play golf?

I am not a golfer but I am going tomorrow. Can I wear something I already have or do I need something special? Are regular tennis shoes acceptable?

Usually you’ll need a collared shirt and some shoes with plastic spikes.

If you are playing at a country club it is important to look classy and it would be better if you had golf spikes but if you don’t tennis shoes would be alright. It also matters on what you already have if you have some kind of polyester polo already that is perfect for golfing attire.

It depends in what kind of course you are playing in, and what is the dress code of the golf course. If your playing in a cheap course that is executive, or a par-3 course, you can mostly wear anything you want, there is really any dress code in those courses. If you play in an 18 hole regulation public municipical course which can cost from $24-50, there might just have a simple dress code, mostly you can wear any shirt, but you can’t wear any tank tops, and denim is allowed but no cutoffs. If you play in a more expensive course which can cost from $50-70, there might be a basic dress code, which a collared shirt is required, and denim can be still allowed. If you play in a more expensive course which costs $80+, they have a more strict dress code which can requires a collared shirt, no denim allowed, and shorts must be bermuda style. For shoes, any tennis shoes are okay, but some courses that are expensive require you to wear soft spikes. Most courses, don’t allow medal spikes, and if your playing in a private golf country club, your probaly required to wear dress shoes going in to the clubhouse, and you have to take your golf shoes, and you change your shoes in the locker room, and you leave your dress shoes you went in with in your locker.

Most courses require you to wear a golf shirt with collar; spikes (most courses don’t allow metal spikes anymore); and neat slacks or shorts! But beware, some clubs don’t allow you to wear shorts!! Hard to believe isn’t it? For the best answer: call the course or look up their web site and see what their dress code is and you will be fine! FORE!…you better learn when to yell that!

you would need special shoes when you perfect the sport and good enough to play at golf course with great golfers.
It depends upon the golf course you play. Some local public courses have no dress code (just decent). Most expensive courses or country clubs require long slacks and pull over shirts with collars, usually no jeans, halters, or short shorts. You do need regular golf shoes, the usual golf equipment, and some kind of cap or hat. It’s a fun game.
Learn and have fun. You’ll meet many nice
and polite people. good luck mate!

most every course will have some sort of dress code. but all you have to do is call them and ask. not every course requires a collard shirt. most public don’t.
regular tennis shoes will be fine. but most course have a problem with metal spiked golf shoes.

You will do a lot of walking. Are the shoes you picked good for that?
You will do a lot of bending over to retrieve balls. Leave the miniskirt at home
You will need to twist your torso. Don’t have a top that’s too tight
Also, you will walk for 3 hours or more for 18 holes. Take:
- Drinks
- snacks
- energy food
- Hat and sunblock
- insect repellent
If you haven’t played before - Cheat (but not enough to win) … shift the ball to make it easier to hit or you will hate being out there with your friends
